Roy Leake
From David C. Nichols. Celebrating and Remembering Roy Leake Jr Service Reminder
First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, 1760 N. Gower St., Hollywood, CA 90028. Saturday, July 30, 2 p.m. The YAs have launched a scholarship fund in his name — check the YAs Reunion page on FB, the official website http://www.youngamericans.org and/or this page for details and further info, since his parents have asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to that fund. Cathy Woo (on the YAs side), Kevin McMahon (in the MTG corner) and Roy’s sister, LuAnn Malcolm are collating pictures for the slideshow, and David Engel and I are trying to locate as many Internet-format/platform audio/video clips of Roy in performance — YAs, MTG, “No Minimum,” “The Importance of Being Earnest,” etc., to burn on to one or two CDS for play at the post-service reception. Please disseminate these service details to any and all who knew, worked with and/or loved Roy, and scour your vaults, thank you. Will alert more as there’s more to alert about. Prayers continue unceasing for David Varnado, LuAnn, Roy Sr. and Carol and their family and all of the extended Tribe. Clouds of Love, L’chaim, love ALL ways, namaste.

Roy Leake. June 22, 1959 – July 17, 2016
From Deborah Van Ells: Roy suffered from sleep apnea. On Saturday, July 9, early morning, he stopped breathing. His partner called the paramedics, but even with their help, and the hospital’s, Roy’s brain was deprived of oxygen for too long. At the advice of the medical staff, yesterday, July 17, Roy’s family removed his breathing tube and let nature/God take over. Roy passed away just a few hours later. His family was with him, and dozens and dozens of friends came from across town and across the country to say their goodbyes to this extraordinary, talented, funny, smart, generous, man, who was such a delightful combination of sentimental and scathing.
