    Dear Peter and Alan,
I am so shocked and sorry to find that Alan has passed. I know it’s been a long, long time since I’ve heard from any of your family, but I would like to send you all my most sincere condolences. Like eveyone in your family, Alan had a special appreciation for beauty. It came across in everthing he did, from the way he fixed and maintained his BMW to the stark, serene harmony he found in his pictures at Mono lake. I will never forget the way he lived, from the day I met him at Computer Parts Exchange. His enjoyment of thhe Three Stooges at the film festivals downtown, his love of the ironic, his laughter and his caring; these will always be with me. The world is indeed an impoverished place without him. I’m so sorry. Who else could be like the man he was? My own life changed in so many ways for having met him, and then Peter, and Kimmo, and Paive, your lovely mother and your quiet but brilliant father. I send you all, all my love, and yet again my most sincere sorrow for your loss. You can find me if you should like, on the web as Eric Penner, Ph.D. And also at the email adress I left for this site. I send you all my very best regards in any case.
    Rick Penner
